Material Choice
Material Options

Pick Your Finish & Gauge.

Chain link comes in two finishes and three gauges. Here's how they stack up so you can pick what's right for your property.

Galvanized (Silver)

20-30+ year lifespan

Classic silver hot-dipped galvanized steel. Most durable option, best value per linear foot. Workhorse choice for commercial perimeter, agricultural, and backyard runs.

Vinyl-Coated (Black/Green/Brown)

15-20 year lifespan

PVC coating bonded over galvanized wire. Black is most popular because it visually disappears against landscaping. Cleaner look for residential, slightly shorter lifespan than bare galvanized.

Wire Gauge (9 vs 11)

Lower number = thicker

9-gauge is the standard for residential and commercial: thicker wire, holds shape, resists climbing. 11-gauge is lighter and cheaper, suitable for low-traffic runs and temporary enclosures.

Chain Link FAQ

Common Questions

Straight answers to the most common chain link, dog fence, and pool fence questions from Oklahoma homeowners.

How long does a chain link fence last in Oklahoma?

Galvanized chain link fencing typically lasts 20 to 30+ years in Oklahoma's climate, and vinyl-coated chain link 15 to 20 years. Both are highly resistant to rot, warping, and pest damage. Periodic checks of tension wire and gate hardware extend lifespan significantly.

What is the difference between galvanized and vinyl-coated chain link?

Galvanized chain link is the classic silver finish, the most durable and budget-friendly option. Vinyl-coated chain link has a PVC coating bonded over the wire, available in black, brown, or green, which looks cleaner against landscaping and lasts well in residential settings.

How much does chain link fence installation cost in Oklahoma?

Chain link fence installation in Oklahoma typically ranges from $15 to $30 per linear foot. Galvanized is most affordable, vinyl-coated mid-range, and dog or pool fences slightly higher due to specialty hardware. Chain link is consistently the lowest-cost fence option per linear foot.

Does Oklahoma require a specific fence around residential pools?

Most Oklahoma jurisdictions require pool barriers to be at least 48 inches high with self-closing, self-latching gates that open outward from the pool. Mesh openings must be small enough that a child cannot climb through. We install pool fences that meet or exceed local code in OKC, Tulsa, and Lawton.

How tall should a dog fence be?

For most breeds 4 feet is sufficient. For large or athletic dogs we recommend 5 to 6 feet, plus optional anti-climb features. We size every dog fence to your specific breed, including dig-prevention at the base for diggers and tight mesh for small dogs who could slip through standard openings.

Do you handle permits and HOA approval for chain link fences?

Yes. We pull required permits and prepare the documentation HOAs typically need: fence type, height, color (galvanized vs vinyl-coated), and property line drawings. Some HOAs restrict chain link to backyards only, and we help you submit the right paperwork the first time.

How long does chain link fence installation take?

Most residential chain link installations are completed in one to two days once materials are on site. Pool fences with specialty gates and dog fences with anti-climb or anti-dig features may take slightly longer. Your project manager confirms a firm timeline before work begins.
